How To Fit & Maintain Your Solid Wood Floor:

Prep Work

It is vital to allow your Solid Wood flooring to acclimatise for at least a period of 5 – 7days before fitting. You should also check the condition of your subfloor, ensuring that it is level and free of any dirt or debris.

Underlay

Your choice of underlay will vary depending on your subfloor. For example, it is vital to use an underlay with a damp proof membrane (DPM), if you’re fitting your floor over concrete. However, if you’re fitting over floorboards, it is not necessary to use a DPM based underlay. Remember, the use of under floor heating is not recommended with Solid Wood floors. (For more info, check out our Flooring FAQs)

Securing Your Solid Wood Floor

There are four main methods used: – Click System – Gluing – Nailing – Screwing

Fitting

Once you’ve positioned your underlay, Solid Wood boards can be laid from any edge of the room. Be sure to use expansion spacers as you go along, maintaining at least a 10mm gap between your Solid Wood boards and the wall. Remember, only some of our Solid Wood floors have locking systems, a majority are Tongue & Groove that may require gluing, nailing or screwing, which is slightly trickier and more time consuming. However, all planks will fit together like jigsaw pieces, creating a resilient, tight bond across every board.
